It’s Halloween – my favorite holiday of the year. It’s not that I particularly like ghosts and goblins. I definitely don’t like being scared. What I love though is the playful spirit that comes from playing dressing up. Everyone young and old gets to cater to their inner child and simply “become someone else” without judgement and with full applause and appreciation for creativity.
Dressing up doesn’t have to be expensive. It need not even be extravagant. It can be as simple as a store-bought mask. But what Halloween gives us is the opportunity to break free from the confines of everyday responsibility, wear a green wig, put on some bright pink lipstick, and eat a bite-sized Almond Joy with guilt-free glee.
Tonight I will transform into Maleficent. I will wear wings and horns, and eat Twizzlers, Snickers, and Dots with reckless abandon. My Spirit will soar, and I hope it intersects with yours.
